Retro Designs Creates The Perfect Chevy K5 Blazer, But It’ll Cost You A Fortune

The crew at Retro Designs has breathed new life into a 1984 Chevrolet K5 Blazer, updating its design and equipping it with a host of modern-day features.

The K5 Blazer acquired by Retro Designs had previously served as a military vehicle in the United States Air Force and served in multiple fire departments. One of the first objectives was to upgrade the powertrain so Retro Designs slotted in a naturally-aspirated LS3 V8 engine good for 430 hp.

Mated to this engine is a 4L65E transmission with the Blazer’s original Advance Adapters transfer case. It also features a ‘hyperboosted’ four-wheel disc brake setup to ensure it can brake just as well as it can accelerate.

Various changes have also been made to the exterior of the Blazer. For example, it features an Army Green paint job that pays homage to one of the original color schemes offered. It has also been equipped with a number of aftermarket accessories, including bronze wheels, off-road tires, black front, and rear bumperettes, the black bull bar, and new tow hooks at both the front and rear.

Then there is the cabin. Retro Designs spent no less than eight months restoring and upgrading the interior. Now finished, the K5 is fully carpeted to match the original vehicle’s layout and features premium Relicate leather seating. There is also a fully functional touchscreen infotainment system and LED interior lighting. A roll cage was also fitted.

“The Chevy K5 Blazer is one of the most iconic configurations of this legendary truck, which was the perfect family vehicle back in the 1980s,” Retro Designs general manager Daniel Valjevac described. “This particular K5 has an incredible background after spending time in both the military and at a few different fire stations throughout the country, so having the opportunity to modernize this rig and keep it out on the open road was a real passion project for our team.”

This particular 1984 Chevrolet K5 Blazer from Retro Designs was recently sold for $190,000.
