Porsche’s official off-road version of the 911 that will be given the “Dakar” title is just around the corner, but it’s a big company now with very high standards, so it’ll take some time before anyone can actually park a modern rally-ready 911 under their garage – and that’s if you manage to get in line first.

A surprising amount of this car’s history has happened on BaT. Delivered new in 1988, painted Guard’s Red, the car did around 270,000 miles (434,520 km) with a single owner before being bought by its current owner on the auction in 2019.

STRAAT, which is based in Miami, Florida, then spent around 20 months stripping the car down to a shell and rebuilding it as you see it here. Repainted Baltic Blue Metallic, the builders opted to retrim the interior, overhaul the 3.2-liter flat-six, add a G50 five-speed manual transaxle, and more.
In addition, it got a Warn winch, Cibie LED auxiliary lights, a custom skid plate to protected its soft underbelly, a roll bar to protect its top, and a roof-mounted spare. The ride height was raised with a Von Shocks suspension and adjustable-perch front coilover springs.
It also got a Getty Design ducktail spoiler, custom bumper bars, and amber rear corner lights to help give it an air of sophistication. The Safari-style 911 rides on 15-inch, staggered-width BRAID Fullrace TA alloy wheels that have been triple-powder coated in metallic gray. They are wrapped in BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires.
Overall, it looks pretty well-made and will undoubtedly draw a lot of attention. Between classics like these, the Marc Philipp Gemballa Marsien, and the official upcoming Porsche 911 Dakar, it seems the world has gone mad for rugged 911s.
