2025 Porsche 718 Boxster EV Spied As Part Evolution, Part Revolution

Porsche’s first foray into electric vehicles has been a success as the Taycan has received a warm welcome. However, the biggest test is around the corner as the company is working on an electric 718 Boxster.

Spied undergoing testing in Southern Europe, the electric roadster is far from production-ready but the prototype suggests the model will be instantly recognizable as a Boxster. Starting up front, we can see Taycan-inspired headlights that reside above pronounced air intakes with horizontal and vertical slats.

While the front end isn’t aerodynamically optimized, at least at this point, we can see minimalist mirrors and heavy camouflage where the side intakes would normally reside. The model also eschews a front fender-mounted fuel door for a hidden charging port, which is likely integrated into the rear end like on the Mission R concept.

Speaking of the rear, we can see minimalist taillights that are only temporary, but may hint at slimmer production units for the road-going model. Porsche also tacked-on a fake center-mounted exhaust, but it’s not fooling anyone.

Little is known about the model at this point, but it could draw cues from the Mission R and GT4 ePerformance concepts. The former had a roughly 80 kWh battery pack and a 340 kW fast charging capability, which could take the battery from a 5% to 80% charge in as little as 15 minutes.

Of course, we shouldn’t expect the same levels of performance as the Mission R had a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that produced 671 hp (500 kW / 680 PS) in race mode and just under 1,085 hp (811 kW / 1,100 PS) in qualifying mode. With the latter mode selected, the car could rocket from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in less than 2.5 seconds and hit a top speed in excess of 186 mph (300 km/h).
