More than 450,000 Ford F-150 models have been recalled in the United States because of an issue with the windshield wipers.
A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notice reveals that impacted 2021-2022 Ford F-150 models have a windshield wiper motor that may become inoperative. Ford says this could happen because of damage caused to the wiper’s integrated circuit board by high transient voltage spikes and poor-quality wiper motor electrical terminals. This could mean the front wipers are inoperative or perform poorly.

Impacted 2022 Ford F-150 models were produced between March 23, 2021 and August 8, 2022. A total of 453,650 vehicles are involved in the recall. However, F-150 models that were built at the Dearborn Truck Plant from May 3, 2021 through September 10, 2021 are excluded from the recall as they were built with a different wiper motor design due to the microchip shortages experienced at the time.
Ford will begin to notify both dealers and owners of impacted models between January 3 and January 6, 2023. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the wiper motor replaced free of charge. Ford will also reimburse those owners who have previously paid to have the issue fixed.
To resolve the issue, technicians will simply remove the wiper motor and replace it with one that was produced after August 1, 2022.
