Cadillac Escalade And Chevrolet Camaro To Become The Next GM Sub-Brands

General Motors wants to capitalize on the popularity of some of its best-known nameplates by transforming them into “Brand Umbrellas”. Following the rumored Chevrolet Corvette spin-offs, the next models that will grow into sub-brands will reportedly be the Chevrolet Camaro and the Cadillac Escalade.

Give More Escalades To The People

As reported by automotive journalist Georg Kacher in his article for Car and Driver, GM execs concluded that it would make more sense to base their efforts around the Escalade, other than trying to reinvent the Cadillac brand as a whole. Thus, more Escalade-branded models are rumored to join the full-size SUV and its extended wheelbase variant in the coming years.

The first new member of the Escalade family is expected to take the form of a smaller three-row crossover that could rival Porsche’s upcoming three-row SUV flagship, targeting the US and China markets. Other options currently under evaluation include a more car-like crossover with a lower stance, and a luxurious minivan that could be reserved for China where this segment is booming.

The Rebirth Of The Camaro

Moving on to the Chevrolet Camaro, the sixth generation of the muscle car might have lost the sales battle against the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger rivals, but the historic nameplate still holds its value. This prompted GM to consider using it for a full lineup of sporty models in the era of electrification.

The obvious way to go for the Camaro range is a sporty crossover, rumored to be available in both two-door and four-door bodystyles. Fans of low-slung models will be happy to hear about an upcoming fully electric coupe with a 2+2 seat layout that could also get a convertible variant. Then there are talks about a flagship sportscar that could be mechanically related to the next-gen Corvette, albeit with a completely redesigned bodywork reflecting the Camaro values.

According to the unnamed GM source, each of the new independent lineups “must be compiled from three or more distinctly different offerings under the same brand umbrella” which will likely be the case for the Corvette, Camaro, and Escalade families. They also mentioned “other successful standalone products” like the Silverado and the Suburban that could potentially become sub-brands, but were deemed “unsuitable for various different reasons”.

It is too early to talk about possible reveal dates, but the aforementioned rumors fueled our imagination for future products. What kind of model would you like to see wearing the Camaro badge?
