A highly desirable 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird is heading to auction on January 12 and is expected to sell for between $900,000 and $1.2 million.
Each and every Plymouth Hemi Superbird produced is special but this one is one of just six painted in Limelight Green and one of just two painted this color and still fitted with its original engine and drivetrain.
The engine takes the form of a Hemi V8 with dual 4-barrel carbs, an H-pipe Hemi exhaust, a factory hydraulic cam, and large, oval air clean. It pumps out 425 hp and is coupled to a Hemi four-speed transmission and a Dana 60 9.75-inch rear end. The Superbird’s A13 package also added power steering, power brakes, and disc brakes at the front.
The Mecum listing notes that the car has been resprayed in the original color of Limelight Green. The exterior also retains all of the original touches, including large Plymouth fender decals, hood pins, Road Runner icons, and the famous rear wing. It also sits on the original wheels that are wrapped in Goodyear F60-15 Polyglas GT tires and it has been driven 31,300 miles (50,372 km) since new.
Collectors will be pleased to know that the Superbird retains its original fender tag, window sticker, broadcast sheet, Dave Wise Report, and Chrysler Registry fender tag. Images of the interior show that just like the exterior, it has been well-maintained and shows very few signs of wear.
