The Honda S660 was discontinued last year, but the tiny sportscar lives on in the form of a radio-controlled minicar thanks to a collaboration between Honda Acess and Kyosho.
The model is surprisingly detailed and well-proportioned for a palm-sized copy in 1/27 scale, with the plastic body mirroring the design of the original S660 Modulo X. To be precise, it measures 142.5 mm (5.6 inches) long, 67 mm (2.6 inches) wide, and 51.7 mm (2 inches) tall. It is available in two different colors (Sonic Gray Pearl or Premium Star White Pearl), both combined with a red-painted roof that doesn’t appear to open and eight-spoke wheels.
You don’t often see this amount of detail in a tiny R/C model.
Under the body lies Kyosho’s Mini-Z AWD chassis complete with drift tires so you can enjoy some power sliding sessions. The model is controlled by a Syncro KT-531P transmitter. Beside the factory-assembled chassis, inside the box you will also find a wheel wrench and a pinion removal tool so you can do your own service intervals. In order for the R/C to run, you’ll need four AAA alkaline or Ni-MH batteries for the car and another four AAA alkaline batteries for the transmitter.
This is not the first time we get to see a Mini-Z variant of a Honda S660-based model. Back in April 2022, Kyosho offered an R/C copy of the “Neo Classic Racer” with its retro-flavored wide bodykit, but the stock Honda S660 Modulo X sounds like a more desirable option for purists.
Reservations for the Honda S660 Modulo X “Mini-Z” will start on January 13 at the Honda Access Yahoo! Shopping store. The official release is scheduled for the end of April 2023. The R/C model will be priced at ¥27,500 ($210), as with most MINI-Z AWD offerings from Kyosho’s catalog. The holiday season might be over but we are already tempted.
