Mercedes introduced the facelifted CLA earlier today and now the company has released details for the United States.

While the styling changes carryover from Europe, the big news is that America is getting the CLA 45 S.  It features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 416 hp (310 kW / 422 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque.  That makes it the most powerful four-cylinder production model offered for sale on this side of the pond.

The engine is connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, which sends power to a standard all-wheel drive system.  This setup should enable the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.0 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 167 mph (269 km/h).

That’s a significant improvement over the outgoing CLA 45, which had 382 hp (285 kW / 387 PS) and 354 lb-ft (479 Nm) of torque.  The company quoted the old model as having as 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 4.0 seconds, so it’s possible they’re being conservative with the time for the 45 S.

Regardless, the CLA 45 S will arrive at U.S. dealerships later this year and come equipped with 19-inch wheels featuring a matte black and high-gloss machined finish.  The company also briefly mentioned a new AMG Aerodynamics Package Plus, which includes a fixed rear spoiler that improves handling at high speeds and “ensures the expressive look of an uncompromising racer.”

Interior changes are limited, but the model features sports seats and a new AMG Performance steering wheel with integrated AMG Drive Unit buttons.  They’re joined by 10.25-inch displays, the latest generation MBUX infotainment system, and a center console which eschews a touchpad controller.

As for the rest of the U.S. lineup, the Shooting Brake sadly remains forbidden fruit.  That’s not surprising and neither is the fact that the entry-level CLA 250 has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with mild-hybrid technology and an output of 221 hp (165 kW / 224 PS).  Customers can also snag a CLA 35, which features all-wheel drive as well as 302 hp (225 kW / 306 PS).
