Philipp Schiemer will step down from his role as Mercedes-AMG chief executive and take on a new role within Mercedes-Benz AG on April 1, 2023.

Schiemer was announced as the chief executive of Mercedes-AMG and head of Top End Vehicle (TEV) Group in May 2020 when ex-AMG boss Tobias Moers defected to become the chief executive of Aston Martin, a role he kept for just two years. Schiemer will move to Mercedes AG on April 1 and be responsible for establishing the Top End Customer and Community Management function.

While the car manufacturer hasn’t explained why Scheimer is leaving his post at AMG, it has been confirmed that he will be replaced by Michael Schiebe, currently the Chief of Staff to the Chairman of the Board of Management & Head of the Corporate Office. In his new role, Schiebe will report directly to Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and chief technology officer responsible for Development and Procurement, Markus Schäfer.

“The success of Mercedes-Benz is above all one thing: a team effort,” chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG Ola Källenius said in a press release. “Some of our colleagues who have been instrumental to our success over many years are now starting new chapters in their lives – they are going into well-deserved retirement or continuing to evolve their careers beyond our company. I would like to wholeheartedly express my sincerest gratitude for their tireless efforts, and want to wish them all the very best for the future.”

Two other high-ranking executives at Mercedes-Benz are also leaving. Wolf-Dieter Kurz, head of Product Strategy & Steering, will retire after 34 years with Mercedes-Benz and be replaced by Oliver Thöne, the current head of Production Planning Mercedes-Benz Cars. Additionally, Florian Hohenwarter, the current head of Production Europe/Africa, is leaving the automaker to become chief operating officer at Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co. KG.
