Few brands have quite the same racing pedigree as Porsche and at Gooding & Company’s upcoming Amelia Island auction running from March 2-3, a particularly special 1987 Kremer Porsche 962C will be available.

This car was built by Kremer Racing and only ever raced twice, namely at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1987 where it finished 4^th overall and Le Mans in 1988 where it finished 8^th overall. It is chassis CK6-87 and was sold by Gooding & Company at its 2019 Amelia Island auction for $1,022,500.  This time around, it is expected to sell for between $850,000 and $1 million.

The Porsche 962 was conceived as a replacement for the 956 and was raced by both the Porsche factory team and various private owners. Kremer built 11 962C chassis’ that it and other teams competed with. This example has had five owners since new and retains its original bright blue paint finish, as well as all of its original sponsorship decals.

Hidden beneath the race car’s bodywork is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six engine estimated to pump out around 750 hp at 8,100 rpm. Working alongside this engine is a 5-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. Other technical highlights of the car include the 4-wheel ventilated disk brakes, fully independent suspension, and the coilover shocks.

Gooding & Company’s listing doesn’t mention if the car is still in good running order or if it will need some repairs and/or upgrades to be returned to its former self.
