We’re living in crazy times and this is no more evident than when analyzing SUVs like the Lamborghini Urus and BMW X7 M60i.

For quite a few years now, the Urus has generally been considered the king of super SUVs, driven by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that’s good for 641 hp and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. Not only does it have an extraordinary amount of power but it also looks more like a supercar than a traditional SUV. It’s little surprise then that the Urus accounts for more than 60 per cent of Lamborghini total sales.

While the main rivals to the Urus are flagship variants of the Porsche Cayenne, the Aston Martin DBX, and the new Ferrari Purosangue, CarWow recently decided to pit it against a slightly different SUV yet one that still delivers remarkable levels of performance: the new BMW X7 M60i.

Whereas the Urus is focused primarily on performance, the X7 M60i is larger, more practical, and has three rows of seating. But that’s not to say it doesn’t offer plenty of performance of its own. Indeed, it is driven by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with 523 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) and while that’s quite a lot less than the Urus, you might be surprised by how well-matched the two are in a straight line.

In a series of drag races conducted between the two, CarWow discovered that the X7 M60i was actually the easiest to launch off the line and initially beats the Urus. However, as the speeds start to build, the Lamborghini puts its extra power and lower overall weight to good use, comfortably accelerating off into the distance and claiming victory.
