The Genesis family is about to expand, as the Korean carmaker is preparing for the launch of the Coupe version of the flagship GV80 SUV.

We first caught a glimpse of the GV80 Coupe in mid-January when a prototype was snapped under heavy camouflage in a South Korean parking garage. Fast forward a few weeks and another prototype has been filmed up close by a Korean YouTube channel.

Like the prototype we saw last month, this one is covered both in camouflage and body cladding, doing a good job of hiding some of the design changes. One thing however Genesis didn’t manage to hide is the revised rear fascia and the lower roofline. One may question just why Coupe-like SUVs such as this exist but Genesis has clearly been encouraged by the success of similar models from its German competitors that continue to sell well, proving that there is demand for such vehicles.

It’s worth noting that the Coupe variant of the GV80 may arrive at the same time that Genesis facelifts the GV80 for the 2024 model year. Prompting speculation of a mid-life facelift was the fact that the prototype spied in January was equipped with more complex headlights than the current model, resembling those of the G90 sedan. If a facelift is indeed in the works then that means that alterations will also probably be made to the taillights.

The Genesis GV80 Coupe should be offered with the same powertrains as the standard model. That will mean a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 300 hp and a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 pumping out 375 hp.

The new model will likely launch in Korea in 2024 but will probably arrive in the U.S. a little later, possibly for the 2025 model year.
