When it comes to track-focused sports cars that you can also drive on the road, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is pretty much impossible to beat. Now could be the perfect chance to buy one.
The 911 GT3 RS you see before you is a 997.2-generation model from 2011. Yes, that means it is 12 years old but the 997 model is one of the finest iterations of the GT3 RS and unlike the latest-generation model, doesn’t aim to deliver lap times to rival a 911 GT3 Cup racing car. That means you can drive it at slower speeds and still enjoy the dynamism that makes every GT car from Porsche so great.
Gooding & Company has been tasked with selling the car at its Amelia Island Auctions event running across March 2 and 3. It was purchased new in Quebec, Canada in 2011 and imported into the United States in 2014 when it was bought by Erick Shirley the following year and has remained in his garage ever since.
A host of modifications have been made to make the car even more track-focused than a regular GT3 RS. As such, it now sports a full roll cage, Sparco racing seats, racing harnesses, an OMP three-spoke steering wheel, carbon fiber doors with Lexan windows, forged BBS wheels, and a billet Numeric Racing competition shifter.
The listing confirms that the car will be sold with all of the original factory parts that were removed to transform it into the ultimate track day weapon, meaning it can easily be returned to an excellent road car. Adding to the appeal of the car is the fact that it has been driven less than 2,400 miles (~3,862 km) since new.
