Genesis will apparently use LiDAR to introduce a Level 3 autonomous driving system this year

It’s been less than 18 months since the 2023 Genesis G90 was unveiled and already, the South Korean car manufacturer has been spotted testing a new G90 prototype.
While you could be excused for thinking that Genesis is readying yet another update for the G90, our spy photographers assert that this G90 is testing an advanced new LiDAR system.
The prototype is void of any traditional black-and-white camouflage and only the front fascia sports some temporary black plastic. Hidden beneath this black plastic and cloth are a plethora of new sensors that have been incorporated into the grille. We understand that Genesis will use the G90 to introduce Level 3 autonomous functions later this year that should include an automatic lane change function when the sedan is driven on highways.

It’s safe to assume that Genesis will offer LiDAR with the G90 as an optional extra as opposed to fitting it as standard equipment. No powertrain modifications are expected to be made for LiDAR-equipped G90 models.
As such, entry-level models should continue to sport a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with 375 hp and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque which is sent to all four wheels. In the United States, models equipped with this engine start at $88,400. Those who can stretch their budget to $98,700 can pick up the keys to a G90 with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that also adds a 48-volt e-Supercharger resulting in a combined 409 hp and 405 lb-ft (549 Nm) of torque. Models equipped with this engine also get Multi-Chamber Air suspension and rear-wheel steering.

If Genesis does indeed sell the LiDAR as part of a Level 3 autonomous upgrade package, we predict it could cost around $5,000.
