Stellantis announced that it plans to start making electrified vehicles based on the STLA Large platform at its Cassino Assembly Plant in Italy. The actual vehicles that will be made there have yet to be revealed, but they will be sold under the Alfa Romeo and Maserati brands.
The STLA Large platform is one of four “electric-centric” vehicle architectures that are being rolled out by Stellantis as part of its future EV plans. The Cassino plant is just the second on earth to make vehicles based on the STLA Large platform, specifically.
It follows Stellantis’ Windsor Assembly Plant, in Canada, where the automaker confirmed in June 2022 that it will make EVs based on the platform following a $3.6 billion CAD ($2.6 billion USD at current exchange rates) investment.

Although Stellantis did not confirm what electric vehicle would be made at the plant, it is widely expected to be the production version of the all-electric Dodge Charger Daytona SRT concept. The automaker has promised to reveal what will be built there in the third quarter of 2023, though.

The Cassino Assembly Plant, meanwhile, currently produces the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, as well as the Maserati Grecale. Opened in 1972, the facility is located in south-central Italy and can currently stamp and plate metal, paint vehicles, and create plastic parts on-site.
“The Cassino plant has a rich history of innovation and technology,” said Carlos Tavares, Stellantis CEO. “The vehicles we are designing on the STLA platforms will revolutionize the driving experience with cutting-edge features and capabilities, so we trust the skilled workers and the Stellantis site management to master our bold cost and quality targets. The support of our workforce in Cassino and the foresight of local and national officials further electrify our efforts to delight customers with clean, safe and affordable mobility.”
A number of details, such as power output, remain unknown about the STLA Large platform, but Stellantis claims it will be able to create vehicles with up to 500 miles (800 km) of range. The automaker says it will reveal the new vehicles that will be made in Cassino at a later date.
