Road rage doesn’t pay and Graham Robinson, 69, is finding that out the hard way. He’s sitting in jail after knocking a motorcycle rider off of his bike after a dangerous chase. Footage from his own dashcam ended up being a major part of his conviction.

Robinson evidently shouted “I am going to knock you off your bike” toward the rider, Liam Guest, just before the pursuit began on August 5th, 2022. What transpired next was all captured on video as the two piloted their vehicles through a series of parking lots. Robinson clearly swerves in front of another moving car so as to keep up with Guest at one point.

When the chase moves from pavement to a dirt road, Robinson catches and hits Guest from behind. He said that Guest struck his wing mirror and that caused him to chase after the motorcyclist. While the crash looks pretty rough, Guest escaped with only cuts and grazes. He did later complain of pain and flashbacks though.

According to the Telegraph, Robinson initially lied to police and said that not only was his dashcam broken but that it wasn’t even in the car at the time of the accident. That same footage ended up showing the entire crime including how Robinson sped through parking lots and down roads at speeds of up to 50 mph (80 km/h). Subsequently, he plead guilty to dangerous driving and obstructing the police.

Robinson acted “in a grossly disproportionate way” according to Judge Timothy Petts. “For anyone to use their car as a weapon as you were doing to settle a grudge with a more vulnerable road user is highly dangerous and the sentence has to reflect that,” the judge said.

Robinson is now serving an eight-month sentence. In addition, he’s banned from driving for three years and four months and is subject to an extended retest should he seek to drive again after that.
