Just picture this for a moment. You’re on a racetrack in your track-tuned Acura TSX and suddenly, the driver’s side rear wheel falls off. What would you do? We suspect most people would immediately pull over and stop. Not this driver.

This strange incident recently occurred during a race at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas and footage from the race shows that the Acura’s hub assembly broke shortly after the driver pulled onto the back straight and started to build speed.

The runaway wheel can be seen rapidly rolling down the straight and smashing into a crash barrier. Fortunately, the wheel didn’t take out any of the competitors who were driving behind James Houghton in his TSX.

Houghton clearly wasn’t afraid of worsening the damage on the Acura and continued on racing. He didn’t take things particularly slowly either and continued to push the car to its limits. This was particularly evident at the end of the race when the TSX entered the final corner slightly ahead of a red Nissan 350Z driven by a competitor.

Not willing to be overtaken at the very last second, Houghton took a tight and defensive line through the corner and while he was initially overtaken by the Nissan, he managed to jump on the throttle sooner and raced the 350Z down the main straight, ultimately finishing a few inches ahead and finishing 13th in the race, not bad considering there were 31 other cars competing.
