Stellantis’ Drive for Design contest is returning for the 11th consecutive year and has tasked high school students in grades 10-12 to sketch out their dream Ram EV pickup truck.

Students wishing to participate need to submit their entries by April 21, 2023. After they do so, one Grand Prize winner will be picked, alongside two additional finalists. The winner will have the opportunity to work as an intern in the Ram Truck Exterior Design Studio during the summer. They will also win a Wacom MobileStudio Pro 16 tablet worth over $2,400 and have their winning sketch shared across Stellantis’ social media platforms.

Those that finish in second and third will also receive a few perks, including an Apple iPad Pro, a Virtual Day of Design portfolio review by members of the Stellantis Design Team, and a scholarship to the four-week VisCom 1 summer program at the College for Design Studies.

Local winners will also be invited to participate as a Student Judge at the EyesOn Design car show at Ford House in Grosse Pointe, Michigan on June 18th.

Heading up this year’s Drive for Design contest is the vice president of Ram Truck and Mopar Design, Mark Trostle. He won one of the program’s early iterations as a high schooler back in 1987 and says it proved key in his pursuit of a design career.

“Participating in this contest gave me the confidence to pursue the path to a career in automotive design,” he described. “Now, I want to help students find the connection between their creativity and the automotive industry. It is incredible to see our past winners come up through the design school ranks. I even get to see some of them as interns or coworkers in our design studio.”

Judges will evaluate each entry according to specific weighing criteria with 25% allocated to craftsmanship, 25% to design quality, 25% to illustration, and 25% to originality.
