Police in Florida have arrested the 59-year-old driver of a Ford Mustang after she led authorities on a high-speed chase.

Barbara Ray initially decided to make a run for it during a routine traffic stop. She sped away from police and was driving so fast along US-1 that deputies were unable to safely deploy stop sticks. The driver then exited I-95 onto SR 100 at over 100 mph (161 km/h) and while police tried to stop her again, she refused to give up.

Shortly after, police were able to throw a set of stop sticks into the path of the Mustang near the Flagler County Courthouse in Bunnell, close to Flagler Executive Airport. However, not even that stopped the woman as she continued to flee southbound on SR 11 with two shredded tires. The 59-year-old was later seen traveling at over 110 mph (177 km/h) but as anyone with their head screwed on will tell you, driving at high speed with two blown-out tires is not a good idea.

Officers from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office soon found the Mustang wrecked in a ditch.

Ray was arrested for Reckless Driving, Fleeing/Eluding LEO with Disregard for Safety or Person/Property, Resisting an Officer without Violence, Failure to Obey a Lawful Order by FCSO deputies, and Fleeing/Attempting to Elude by VSO. She was promptly taken to the Volusia County Branch jail.

“Mustangs might be fast, but you can’t outrun our radio system and our law enforcement partners,” local Sheriff Rick Staly said after the woman’s arrest. “Her driver’s license needs to be permanently revoked and she needs to spend some time in the Green Roof Inn thinking about her poor decisions and behavior that put so many drivers at risk. Thank you to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office and the Bunnell Police Department for helping to stop this reckless driver before she could kill someone.”
