Toyota’s new GT3 racing car appears to be based on the 2022 GR GT3 Concept

Toyota has been spotted testing a very intriguing GT3 racing prototype at Fuji Speedway in Japan and in addition to the car looking the part, it also sounds very, very mean.
Images and a video of the car were recently shared on Twitter and show it lapping the track as part of its development. While heavy camouflage adorns every inch of the bodywork, it appears as though the car is based on the Toyota GR GT3 Concept that was unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon in early 2022.
The first indication that the two are related is that just like the concept, the front fascia of this prototype sports a gaping-wide grille, a large splitter, and small headlights. The dimensions of the front also appear very similar, including the massive hood that seems to stretch on forever.
Viewed from the side, the similarities continue with the cabin positioned roughly in the same spot as the concept. You may also notice large openings directly behind the front wheels to aid in cooling and aerodynamics, another feature that was present in the concept. The rear decklid of this prototype appears slightly longer than the concept while it also looks to have a bulkier rear bumper. The rear wing looks almost the same, as does the rear diffuser.

The soundtrack of the car is also something to behold. It sounds very much like a V8 rocking forced induction and could be the twin-turbocharged V8 that we heard Lexus was developing a few years ago.
If this is the case, then it’s entirely possible that the car in question will not be a Toyota and instead race as a Lexus. If that’s true then it’s certainly possible that this GT3 racer could be laying the groundwork for the next-generation LFA supercar that may arrive as soon as 2025 before morphing into an EV.
