Jeep will recall around 60,000 Wrangler models to fix the issue

Stellantis is recalling almost 60,000 Jeep Wrangler models in the United States because they may have been manufactured with an unnecessary and unused frame stud.
A notice reveals that certain Jeep Wrangler models from the 2020-2023 model years have a frame stud that may contact the fuel tank in a crash. If this were to happen, the stud could puncture the tank and start a fire, increasing the risk of injury to occupants and those near the vehicle.
The car manufacturer first became aware of a potential issue on June 28, 2022, when the FCA US Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance organized opened an investigation after frames were found with the frame stud. It investigated the issue over the ensuing six months and while the company has received no customer assistance records, no warranty claims, and no field reports related to the issue, it has decided to issue a recall.
A total of 57,885 vehicles are involved in the recall. Wrangler models in question were built between October 16, 2019, and May 14, 2022. Mopar has issued a separate recall of its own for the same problem, of which 165 vehicles are involved.
Owners of impacted Jeep Wrangler and Mopar models will be alerted to the recall on or around May 12, 2023, and instructed to bring their vehicle to a dealer where the frame will be inspected. If the frame stud is present, it will be removed and paint will be applied over the hole. Owners who have previously paid to have the issue fixed will be reimbursed.
