Aston Martin has acknowledged that it has given thought to a lightened version of the DBX that could serve as a direct rival to the Lamborghini Urus Performante.

Not too long ago, the British brand grew the DBX family with the launch of the 707 variant, fitted with a heavily-modified version of the vehicle’s twin-turbocharged V8. The brand has since indicated that the DBX range could expand further, telling Car Expert that it has been thinking about a lighter version.

“There’s definitely something we’ve been thinking about, and has been thought about from the start of the project,” Aston Martin Lagonda senior vehicle engineering manager Andy Tokley said. “Obviously I can’t really confirm or deny whether anything’s in the future plan for the car line, but yes it would be quite easy to get some mass out quickly.”

Aston Martin Could Launch A Lightweight Version Of The DBX

Aston Martin has given so much thought to a lightweight version of the DBX that it already knows what changes it could make and what features it could remove.

“We do know the list of stuff we could easily take off the car to reduce the mass of it,” Tokley said. “You take a glass roof and a blind out and put a conventional roof in and you can take 25kg (55 lbs) right off the top end of the car, which obviously helps you a lot for the inertia of the car.”

The car manufacturer could also ditch the three-person bench of the standard model and replace it with two individual seats. Tokley added that the standard model had its ESP systems tuned to always account for having a 100 kg (220 lbs) load on the roof of the SUV. If it was to ditch this roof load, it would be able to better tune the ESP, helping to further boost performance.
