England’s Electrogenic wants to make electromodding easier, and has delivered the first customer example of what it describes as a plug-and-play kit for classic Porsche 911s. The fully reversible process it designed to be easy to accomplish and to deliver modern performance.

The car in question started life as a 1985 G-Body 911, but it was backdated to look more like the 2.7 RS by the owner, before now being converted to electric power. Meanwhile, the kit in question is called the E62 911 package.

Intended to be easy enough for any mechanic to install, the package includes a cutting-edge electric powertrain that pumps out 215 hp (160 kW/218 PS) and 230 lb-ft (312 Nm) of torque. That’s enough to get the car off the line and up to 60 mph (96 km/h) in a sprightly five seconds.

For those who want a little more power, the E62s version, ups the power to 320 hp (240 kW/326 PS) and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. That can get the car up to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.

Thanks to 62 kWh of batteries located where the car’s original gas tank would have gone, Electrogenic claims 911s on its conversion kit can go between 180 and 200 miles (290 to 322 km) on a charge. The car can be recharged in around 50 minutes.

Naturally, the batteries and componentry add a little weight. In all, Electrogenic says the package adds about 220 lbs (100 kg) to the overall weight of the car. On the other hand, it now has regenerative braking and several driving modes for the city, power-saving, and high-performance driving.

As you might expect, reversibility means changing the car as little as possible. To that end, the original gauges have been retained, and now display information about range and charge speed. The cabin is also equipped with a discrete electric heater in this case.

“The delivery of this special 911 marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Electrogenic,” said Steve Drummond, Electrogenic’s co-founder. “The kits enable us to offer our market-leading, ‘plug and play’ EV technology to customers around the globe, and at scale, taking our business to a whole new level.”

The E62 conversion package is available for G-Body and 964-generation Porsche 911s. Electrogenic also offers kits for Land Rovers, the Jaguar E-Type, and the Triumph Stag.
