The Tesla Cybertruck has been a hot topic of discussion since the original concept was introduced in 2019, with plenty of footage from evolved prototypes during the course of the past year. In the Tesla Shareholders’ meeting yesterday, Elon Musk confirmed that deliveries of the Cybertruck will commence later this year, while a nearly production-spec model made a surprise appearance.

Starting with Elon Musk‘s comments about the Cybertruck, he admitted that it is a very difficult vehicle to produce due to the “radically new design”. The Tesla CEO said that they had to “invent a whole new set of manufacturing techniques in order to build an exo-skeleton-based car” in a quest to explain the delays from concept to production. After a recent visit to the Cybetruck production line, Musk revealed they’re making “good progress” and they will “finally start delivering production Cybertrucks later this year”. He also said that the final product will be “better than expectations”, which made shareholders excited.

The electric truck was exhibited outside the event’s premises in Austin, Texas, allowing some of the attendees and shareholders to shoot close-up videos and photos. Among them was ex-Tesla employee Farzad Mesbahi and user Greggertruck who uploaded their own videos on YouTube giving us a good idea of the latest Cybertruck evolution.

This particular model appears to be closer than ever to production status, featuring conventional mirrors, revised lighting units, larger bumpers, a huge wiper on the edge of the flat windshield, and a few integrated cameras. A closer look reveals that there are some alignment issues on the tailgate and on the roof panel, which will hopefully be fixed before customer deliveries. Overall, the Cybertruck retains the sharp edges and shiny flat body panels of the original concept, as with the futuristic wheel covers which do make a big difference compared to earlier prototypes.

Two more videos were published yesterday on the Cybetrurck Owners Club Forum showing the EV driving on the production floor and being lifted by a crane. We will learn more about the model in a dedicated Cybertruck Delivery Event sometime later this year. Until then, we will keep an eye out for new footage and information about the much-anticipated truck.
