Apple’s iPadOS 18 Update is Bricking M4 iPad Pro Models

Apple is hitting pause on the rollout of iPadOS 18 for its high-end iPad Pro models, after complaints that the software update made the device unusable for some people.

The company told CNET the issue is affecting iPad Pro models with Apple’s newer M4 processor. “We have temporarily removed the iPadOS 18 update for M4 iPad Pro models as we work to resolve an issue that is impacting a small number of devices,” Apple said in a statement.

The complaints surfaced on Reddit earlier this week when a user wrote, “At some point during the update my iPad turned off, and would no longer turn on.”

Alongside new updates to the iPhone on Monday, Apple pushed out a handful of new features to the iPad, including more customization tools for the home screen, control center and tab bars. The software update also includes revamped Photos, Messages and Calendar apps, a new folder where apps can be hidden, and for the first time, a calculator app.

Missing on iPad OS 18.0, however, is Apple Intelligence, the company’s big foray into generative AI tools. Those features are likely to debut on iPadOS 18.1 or later, depending on when the bricking glitch is fixed.
