Aston Martin has just unveiled the drop-top version of the Vanquish, bearing the Volante moniker, which celebrates its 60th anniversary. The new addition to the lineup matches the coupe as the fastest and most powerful front-engined production car on sale, while offering the benefits of open-air driving.

Under the hood lies the twin-turbo 5.2-liter V12 engine of the Vanquish, generating a thunderous 824 hp (614 kW / 835 PS) and 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a transaxle eight-speed ZF automatic transmission with the help of an E-diff.

The chassis has been reinforced to make up for the lack of a fixed roof, but the weight increase is limited to 95 kg (209 lbs) compared to the coupe. The weight balance has changed, so Aston Martin engineers have retuned the suspension with the adaptive Bilstein DTX dampers.

Unlike other drop-top variants of fixed-roof coupes, the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante matches the 214 mph (344 km/h) top speed of its coupe sibling. This makes it the fastest front-engined convertible, as the rival Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider has a top speed of 211 mph (340 km/h). However, the drop-top Aston Martin is a tad slower from a standstill, completing the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in 3.4 seconds compared to the 2.95 seconds of the Ferrari.

Looks might be subjective, but the Volante versions of Aston Martin models are usually sexier than their coupe counterparts. This is also the case with the new Vanquish Volante, with the retractable fabric roof helping the proportions shine and accentuating the sculpted lines of the profile.

The redesigned rear deck does without the integrated ducktail spoiler of the coupe, adopting a more subtle appearance. More importantly, the K-fold roof can be stored under the tonneau cover in 14 seconds, exposing the two-seater cabin to the elements. According to the company, the fabric roof is acoustically enhanced and offers comparable thermal insulation to the coupe.

The two-seater interior is carried over from the Vanquish, albeit with an extra switch for the roof operation and a new button giving direct access to the ADAS controls. Equipment includes dual 10.25-inch screens and a specially tuned 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system.

The standard Sport Plus Seats can be optionally swapped with the carbon fiber Performance Seats. Other cool options are the lighter and louder Titanium exhaust system, and the saddle leather luggage set, since this is a grand tourer.

Of course, buyers have access to countless customization options – including bespoke components – thanks to the Q by Aston Martin division.

The Aston Martin Vanquish Volante is already available to order, with the first deliveries scheduled for Q3 2025. However, Aston Martin won’t be making them in big numbers, as the entire Vanquish family will have a production output of less than 1,000 units per year.
