The Valkyrie beat the previous record holder, Koenigsegg’s Jesko Attack, by 1.3 seconds, which makes it the fastest street legal car around the TG track
The British hypercar beat the Koenigsegg Jesko Attack by 1.3 seconds.
The Valkyrie also beat out a Ferrari SF90 Stradale by 1.7 seconds.
However, the Valkyrie still trails some track-only cars with slick tires.
The Aston Martin Valkyrie is one of the craziest cars ever conceived and it’s now official the fastest road-legal car to ever lap the Top Gear Test Track with the Stig behind the wheel. It might not be nowhere near as fast as a Formula 1 car, as Aston Martin had promised it would be when development first started, but it’s still like a bat out of hell.
The British publication recently got its hands on a green Valkyrie to do some testing. Naturally, it handed over the keys to its tamed racing driver, who sprinted around the circuit in 1:09.6.
To put that into perspective, that’s 1.3 seconds quicker than the Koenigsegg Jesko Attack that set a new record at the track just a few months ago. It’s also 1.7 seconds quicker than a Ferrari SF90 Stradale, which benefits from having all wheel drive, and 1.1 seconds quicker than the track-only Ferrari FXX on slick tires.
For as rapid as the Valkyrie is, it can’t rival a true track weapon. For example, the old Aston Martin DBR9 lapped Top Gear’s track in 1:08.6 back in 2005. Other cars that are quicker than the Valkyrie include the Pagani Zonda R, McLaren 720S GT3X, Ford Supervan 4.2, Lotus T125, and a Renault R24 Formula 1 car.
However, for a car with number plates, the Valkyrie’s time is very impressive, particularly when you consider it sends all of its 1,000+ horses through the rear wheels. The track also only has a couple of truly high-speed corners where the Aston can put all of its downforce to good use. On a longer circuit, with more sweeping bends, the difference between it and an SF90, for example, would probably be more significant.
