  • Genesis has shown a full-scale model of its racing hypercar with the final livery.
  • The Genesis Magma Racing livery combines orange and red shades with Korean graphics.
  • The GMR-001 is the automaker’s first LDMh entry for the WEC and IMSA championships.

The rugged Genesis X Gran Equator Concept might be grabbing all of the attention, but it’s not the only highlight at Genesis’ stand during the 2025 New York Auto Show. Sharing the spotlight is a full-scale model of the GMR-001 hypercar, which is set to take on the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2026.

While the GMR-001 has already been shown in renderings and as a scale model, visitors at the New York show are the first to see the life-sized version of the LMDh endurance racer. It’s displayed in its final Genesis Magma Racing livery.

The exterior features the signature Magma Orange paint, which fades into a deep Dark Red toward the rear. The livery includes geometric graphics inspired by Korean heritage, with design elements reflecting the word “Magma” written in Hangeul characters.

Despite its track-only nature and the increased focus on aerodynamics, the low-slung GMR-001 adopts styling cues from Genesis production models, including the “Two-Line lighting” signature and the “sweeping Parabolic Line” on the profile.

Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar Is Drenched In Le Mans Magma Madness

Genesis hasn’t shared full technical specifications yet, but the GMR-001 will be powered by a hybrid rear-wheel-drive setup capped at 671 horsepower (500 kW / 680 PS). The internal combustion component is a twin-turbo V8, developed by merging two 1.6-liter four-cylinder engines derived from WRC racing.

The powertrain and the chassis were developed with the help of Oreca Motorsport specifically for endurance racing. Still, parts of the technology might find their way into future production models, likely from the Magma-branded performance lineup.

Finally, Genesis also revealed the GMR Race Suits to be worn by the drivers, including three-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner André Lotterer and four-time 12 Hours of Sebring winner Luis “Pipo” Derani.

The GMR-001 will compete under the Genesis Magma Racing banner in both the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the IMSA SportsCar Championship starting in 2027. Confirmed LMDh entries so far include Genesis, Ford, Alpine, BMW, Cadillac, and Porsche. Meanwhile, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Peugeot, and Toyota are opting to continue in the LMH category.
