  • Ford’s facelifted Mondeo has been spied undergoing testing in the United States.
  • The model features a new front fascia with a revised grille and updated lighting units.
  • The interior is camouflaged, suggesting the cabin and its 27-inch display could be tweaked.

Ford abandoned sedans in North America years ago, making the Focus, Fusion, and Taurus a distant memory. Given this, it’s not surprising the facelifted Mondeo received a lot of attention when it was recently spied undergoing testing in the United States.

Dressed in swirly black and white camouflage, the model features a new front fascia with a revised grille that is flanked by updated lighting units. The latter are covered by disguise, but we can see a new daytime running light signature.

Additional details are hard to make out, but it appears the car will adopt a more curvaceous front bumper and a revised lower intake. We can also see familiar bodywork, although the camouflage suggests we can expect updated side skirts.

Changes to the rear end are less extensive, but we wouldn’t be surprised to find updated taillights and a modified bumper. The diffuser also appears to have been fine-tuned.

The interior was covered by camouflage, so the extent of the changes remains unclear. However, we can likely expect a tech forward design as the current model has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as well as an expansive 27-inch infotainment system that doubles as a front passenger display.

Little else is known about the facelifted Mondeo at this point, but the current model offers an assortment of engines in China. These include a 1.5-liter EcoBoost with 188 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) and 190 lb-ft (258 Nm) of torque as well as a 2.0-liter EcoBoost developing 251 hp (187 kW / 254 PS) and 290 lb-ft (393 Nm).

Chinese customers can also opt for electrified variants, which add a 129 hp (96 kW / 131 PS) or 188 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) electric motor. This appears to give the models a combined output of 205 hp (153 kW / 208 PS) and 304 hp (227 kW / 309 PS).

While the prototype came stateside for testing, don’t expect the production model to make the same trip.
