  • Lewis Hamilton’s 12C is painted in Volcano Red, while Button’s is painted in Elite Pearl White.
  • Both have interiors in red and black upholstery; Hamilton’s uses Alcantara, and Button’s leather.
  • The two supercars haven’t been driven much and are expected to sell for over the market average.

The McLaren MP4-12C marked the British brand’s return to the world of mid-engined supercars after the legendary F1, and a pair of examples with an interesting past will be offered for sale in Italy next month. One of them was configured by and delivered to Lewis Hamilton and the other to his teammate at the time, Jenson Button.

Hamilton’s former MP4-12C is the most striking of the pair. It is painted in Volcano Red, which is still one of McLaren’s finest standard colors. The seven-time F1 world champion also had it equipped with an optional carbon fiber exterior package, the Stealth Package, and five-spoke wheels finished in Satin Dark Grey.

The MP-12C was delivered to Hamilton in March 2012, but he sold it later that year after moving to Mercedes for the 2013 season. It’s been owned by the same individual in France ever since, and has just 8,938 km (5,553 miles) on the clock. The cabin is adorned by Harissa Red and Black Alcantara upholstery with plenty of carbon fiber elements.

Broad Arrow Auctions expects the car to sell for between €175,000 (~$199,000) and €225,000 (~$256,000). That’s quite a lot, especially since it is possible to find used examples in the US for less than $100,000 – but none of them was owned by Sir Lewis Hamilton.

Jenson Button’s MP4-12C will be sold as part of the same Villa d’Este auction and is tipped to fetch between €125,000 (~$142,000) and €150,000 (~$170,000). It is painted in Elite Pearl White, and the cabin has the same Harissa Red and Black finish as Hamilton’s car, although Button’s car has leather rather than Alcantara.

The 2009 F1 world champion kept the car until 2013, when it was sold to a collector in the UK who still owns it to this day. It has 12,438 km (7,728 miles) on the odometer and was recently serviced in preparation for the auction.

If you’re in the market for a McLaren with some actual F1 star power attached to it, these MP4-12Cs could be worth a closer look. You can check out the listing details over here and here.
