  • A Porsche 911 GT3 RS driver lost control and punted the car directly into a tree.
  • The accident was not quick but unfolded slowly through a series of mistakes.
  • Everything was caught on camera in real time, including the messy aftermath.

Performance cars nowadays are more powerful than ever before. Most of them are more refined and controllable, too. That didn’t stop one driver from absolutely failing to properly bridle the horses under the hood of a late-model Porsche 911 GT3 RS. After what appears to be several attempts to show off in a botched burnout, this driver hits a curb, a tree, and evidently never the brakes.

The entire situation went down in Florida with a grey 911 GT3 RS with red wheels. The driver appears to do a burnout with cameras rolling. That part isn’t unusual. Who doesn’t want to show off their driving skills behind the wheel of a seriously capable $240,000+ sports car? At the same time, nobody wants what happens in this short clip.

The driver speeds down the road and enters an S curve. At first, it appears that things are going well. Soon, though, it becomes clear that the driver is going too quickly. They make the first turn but then overcorrect, and the 911 does what 911s do; specifically, its rear end tries to take the position of its front end. The driver hangs on as the back end slides left, but then, as the car slides back to the right, it hits the curb. In fact, it goes over the curb and kicks up dirt.

The driver appears to stop giving steering input for a moment, but doesn’t seem to stop giving throttle input. Somehow, they don’t seem to think to hit the brakes either. The result is a six-figure car smashing into a tree; the driver’s tire first. Amazingly, the car looks pretty awesome considering the force of the impact. The airbags went off, the wheel is pushed back, and the bumper and fender clearly need fixing.

Somehow, the hood looks almost unaffected. In fact, most of the car appears as though it could just continue on down the road with zero repair. That said, I do wonder what the frame looks like under the sheet metal. Hopefully, the driver is okay. It looks like the airbags went off, so at least some safety devices tried to keep the human damage to a minimum. No telling how healthy this person’s ego looks right now.
