Owning a piece of automotive history has never been cheap, but when the car in question comes with both Ferrari pedigree and Ralph Lauren’s name attached, you can expect the price tag to reach stratospheric heights.
Ralph Lauren is one of the world’s most famous and successful fashion designers, but in automotive circles, he is equally renowned for having one of the most impressive car collections on the planet. Now, a 1995 Ferrari F50 that once belonged to him is heading to auction and could easily become one of the most expensive F50s ever sold publicly.

Ferrari only ever built 349 examples of the F50, and of these, 55 were built to US specification. Lauren’s old car is one of just two of these US models painted in Giallo Modena and was delivered new to the fashion mogul. Ordinarily, once Lauren buys a car, he keeps it. However, he parted ways with this F50 in 2003, and it has remained in the possession of the second owner ever since.
RM Sotheby’s says this remarkable F50 could sell for between $6.5 million and $7.5 million. Even if it trades hands for the lower estimate of $6.5 million, that would be a $1 million premium over the previous most-expensive F50 ever sold at auction, which fetched $5,532,500 in February. That car had 1,351 miles (2,174 km) on the clock. Lauren’s old F50 has been driven a touch under 5,400 miles (~8,690 km).

The Giallo Modena F50 was displayed at a handful of events in the 2000s, but has not been shown publicly since 2009, when it was brought to the Celebration Exotic Car Festival in Central Florida. It was most recently serviced last year and had a new fuel bladder installed.
There was a time when the F50 wasn’t viewed in the same esteemed regard as the F40, but things have changed in recent years. Thanks in part to its F1-derived V12 engine and its incredible rarity, it’s now viewed as one of the greatest Ferrari road cars ever, and this is reflected in valuations of lower-mileage models. A decade ago, it was possible to get an F50 for less than $1.5 million. Now, they’re trading hands for over $5 million.
