Elon Musk has reportedly stopped working out of the White House on a regular basis.
While he attended a cabinet meeting today, it seemed like a stop on a farewell tour.
President Trump thanked Musk for is work and claimed he’s been “treated very unfairly.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently promised to step back from his role as the de facto head of the Department of Government Efficiency and it appears he’s already heading for the exit. In fact, a report claims the outspoken executive is no longer working from the White House on a regular basis.
While his time as a special government employee was always going to be limited, it appears to be quickly winding down. However, Musk isn’t gone yet as White House Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, told the New York Post that “Instead of meeting with him in person, I’m talking to him on the phone, but it’s the same net effect.”
That’s ironic considering Musk’s disdain of remote work and the government’s move to force federal employees back to the office. Nonetheless, Musk has been a fixture at the White House and even attended cabinet meetings, including one held today.
CNBC reports the visit was a bit like a farewell tour as he told President Trump it’s “been an honor to work with your incredible Cabinet.” He went on to thank everyone and claim DOGE has saved $160 (£120 / €141) billion. Of course, previously claimed savings have been the source of much debate.

Trump thanked Musk and said “You really have sacrificed a lot. You’ve been treated very unfairly.” Musk then humorously replied, “Well, they like to burn my cars, which is not great.”
While Musk is preparing to transition back to corporate life, administration officials have noted DOGE’s work isn’t done. Musk is also expected to become an informal advisor and it’s clear he has the President’s ear.
