A bespoke Type R with Alfa Romeo styling steals the show at a Civic gathering in Japan

A wild Japanese build fuses Alfa Romeo styling with Honda Type R performance DNA.
This Alfa Romeo Civic sports a custom bumper, tricolor accents, and Quadrifoglio wheels.
The hot hatchback is based on the FL5 Type R, retaining the 2.0-liter VTEC with 325 hp.
Alfa Romeo hasn’t built a true hatchback since the Giulietta bowed out in 2020, leaving fans of the brand with little more than wistful memories and secondhand listings. One enthusiast, however, decided to take matters into their own hands – literally.
Rather than wait around for a new hatchback, something Alfa Romeo’s boss has already ruled out, they built one themselves. The result is a one-off hot hatch based on the Honda Civic Type R, blending Japanese engineering with a touch of Italian flair in a mashup that works surprisingly well.
This custom creation was recently spotted by X user Takayuki FK7 at a Honda Civic gathering at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan. At first glance, it almost looks too wild to be real, like something an AI image generator might cook up after you fed it some Alfa Romeo press photos and a Civic brochure.
Up front, the Civic’s face has been transformed with a new bumper featuring the classic Alfa Romeo scudetto grille, flanked by oversized cooling intakes. The headlights, hood, and front fenders remain stock Civic, but the redesigned nose is dramatic enough to throw your brain off balance for a second.
The side profile gets a lift from a set of Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio phone-dial wheels, paired with a lowered suspension for a more aggressive stance. Carbon fiber mirror caps wear the Italian flag’s green, white, and red stripes, a small but cheeky detail that helps distract from the car’s unmistakably Japanese silhouette.
Around back, the owner has fitted aftermarket taillights with a smoked finish, replaced the Civic’s signature triple tailpipe with a dual-exit setup, and tweaked the rear wing just enough to make it stand out. The Honda badge has been swapped out for a black Alfa Romeo emblem with red accents, completing the transformation.
Apparently, the car’s owner hasn’t shared many details publicly, keeping a relatively low profile online. Fortunately, X user @Takayuki_FK7 was at the event and captured a few solid shots of the vehicle, giving everyone a closer look.
Despite the Alfa Romeo badge, performance remains pure Honda. Under the hood is the turbocharged 2.0-liter VTEC engine found in the FL5 Civic Type R, good for 325 horsepower (243 kW / 330 PS) in the Japanese market. Power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The underpinnings are unchanged, which is fine, as Honda’s Type R chassis is more than capable, even without Italian tuning.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time someone has dressed up a car with Alfa Romeo branding. In recent years, similar projects have popped up, including a BMW Z4 and a Mazda MX-5, each featuring custom cosmetic conversions. Still, this Civic might be the most convincing attempt so far.
