If you’re a fan of classic American muscle with just enough modern refinement to make daily driving bearable, this restomod Trans Am might be your kind of car. It’s got the iconic looks, a thoroughly reworked foundation, and a fresh lease on life that makes it more than just a nostalgia piece.

The Pontiac Trans Am has one of the most iconic designs of any American performance car, so it’s little wonder that it has so many fans. However, given that classic Trans Ams are now approaching 50 years old, they serve as an excellent base for restomods, just like we see here. This 1977 Trans Am is heading to auction in Indianapolis this week, and if you’re willing to spend some serious cash, it could be yours.

The muscle car recently underwent a two-year rotisserie restoration from Second Gen Engineering in the US and is now ready to be driven and enjoyed back on the road. With a modern powertrain, new technologies, and the same iconic looks it had back in the day, there’s no denying this Trans Am has a unique appeal that no current American muscle car can match.

As part of the restoration and modification process, the car was stripped back to the floor pan, which was then painted in red oxide. Additionally, the original subframe, solid body mounts, and subframe connectors have been seam welded, while all-new suspension components have been fitted. These include Viking Performance coilovers at the front and double-adjusted shocks at the rear. It even has an adjustable rear sway bar.

Gone is the original engine, and in its place sits a 6.2-liter LT1 engine with 460 hp. The engine now includes custom stainless steel headers and a new 3-inch exhaust. Routing power to the rear wheels is a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission.

The cabin has also been nicely upgraded, but avoids the trap of some other restomods where modern screens and digital clusters are installed. Instead, the original dashboard has been restored alongside the dash bezel and the gauges. It also features newly-appointed bucket seats and door panels, while rocking an Alpine head unit and a 1,200-watt subwoofer.

Going Once, Going Twice…

Only 2,500 miles have been logged since the overhaul, and the Pontiac is headed to auction in Indianapolis this week through Mecum. It’s expected to fetch up to $160,000, which isn’t exactly spare change, but given the build quality and attention to detail, the number starts to make sense, especially if your garage is missing something with a screaming chicken on the hood.
