Lamborghini has a well-established talent for turning its standard production models into outrageously expensive, limited-edition rarities that make you question if they come with a side of gold flakes. Over the years, the Italian automaker has rolled out a series of these exclusive beasts, including the Sian, Centenario, SC20, and Veneno.

However, if we take a trip back to the 2000s, one car really stands out as a sign of Lamborghini’s penchant for the dramatic: the Reventon and its Roadster sibling.

Production of the Coupe was capped at just 20 units, while a further 15 examples of the Reventon Roadster were produced. With such a limited run, you can’t exactly expect to see these cars roaming the streets or popping up at your local car auction. But if you were eyeing one of them, RM Sotheby’s will be selling one of these elusive Roadsters in Milan next month, with an estimated price tag between $1.45 million and $1.8 million.

Built on the Lamborghini Murcielago platform, the Reventon Roadster shares the same 6.5-liter V12 engine found in the LP 670-4 SV. It’s finished in the signature Grigio Reventon color, just like every other example, which gives it a futuristic, military stealth vibe. This particular one was delivered to its first owner in Switzerland back in July 2010, and later changed hands in 2018, finding a new home in Germany.

The exterior design of the Reventon takes inspiration from the F-22 Raptor and makes even a Murcielago look a little lame. There’s no mention of damage on this particular car, and it looks just as wild as it did when it first left the factory. The interior is also immaculate and includes black leather and light grey Alcantara seats. There’s also heaps of exposed carbon fiber.

You’d think that with its rarity and eye-catching design, the Reventon Roadster would be raking in profits at auction, but it hasn’t really appreciated much in value. Back in 2010, the price for a new one started around $2.1 million. Fast forward to now, and this particular car could sell for nearly $650,000 less than that original price.

Despite having just 4,102 km (2,548 miles) on the clock, and being one of Lamborghini’s most iconic limited-run models, it seems the Reventon’s star hasn’t risen quite as high as expected.

Even so, for anyone with the cash to burn, snagging one of these rare Roadsters might just be worth it, for the bragging rights alone. You can check out the listing over here.
