The carbon clad Concept RR previews the next-gen superbike

• BMW Motorrad has introduced the new Concept RR at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
• It previews the next-generation RR and features an aerodynamically optimized design.
• The bike is also lightweight thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber and aluminum.

BMW continues to make a splash at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este as their Motorrad division used the event to unveil the new RR concept. It’s designed to preview the next-generation superbike and is clearly focused on performance.

The bike sports a ‘sharp, purposeful, and expressive’ design that has been streamlined and stripped of unnecessary attachments. Aerodynamics played a big role and BMW Motorrad noted the concept has numerous vents as well as an aerodynamically optimized fairing with integrated winglets.

However, eyes are naturally drawn to exposed carbon fiber and aluminum components. BMW said they wanted to set a new benchmark in lightweight construction and this means every part has been optimized including the frame and the aluminum tail.

While the motorcycle features an evolutionary design, there are a few notable changes besides the bodywork. Key among them is a large BMW roundel that is integrated into the intake. We can also see extended covers, larger headlights, and a minimalist windscreen.

They’re joined by Brembo brakes, Domino grips, and an aluminum tank. Other highlights include a digital instrument cluster and an illuminated “RR” out back.

BMW says the bike is powered by a water-cooled inline four-cylinder engine that is shared with motorcycles that compete in the FIM Superbike World Championship. The company noted it produces more than 227 hp (169 kW / 230 PS) and is accompanied by electronic control and regulation systems sourced directly from the WSBK M 1000 RR.

A Matching Jacket You Can Actually Buy

Besides the bike, BMW introduced a jacket to match. Known as the Concept RR LTD, the stylish accessory features Nappa leather and “BMW Motorrad” badging below the neck. The jacket was made in collaboration with Meindl and will be going into limited production. A total of 50 units will be available, although there’s no immediate word on pricing.
