Nissan Z sales shot up 108% in Q2 and are up 160% for the year.
The sports car is easily beating the Supra, but trails the Charger Daytona.
Nissan sales fell 6.1% overall, but the Ariya and Murano were up significantly.
Sales of sports cars are notoriously fickle as there’s typically a huge surge of initial interest, which quickly fades as the model ages. However, the Nissan Z appears to be bucking that trend as second quarter sales shot up 108% to 1,635 units.
This appears to be part of a larger trend as year-to-date sales climbed to 3,789 units, which was a 160.1% jump from a year ago. To put that into perspective, Toyota has only sold 1,231 Supras in all of 2025.
However, both pale in comparison to the 14,174 Mustangs sold in the second quarter. That being said, the Z isn’t far behind the Dodge Charger Daytona, which only generated 2,352 sales in Q2 despite some dealers offering discounts in excess of $20,000.
Speaking of pricing, the 2025 Nissan Z starts at $42,970 and features a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine developing 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS) and 350 lb-ft (474 Nm) of torque. It can be connected to either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic.
Customers can also opt for the $65,750 Z NISMO, which sports an upgraded powertrain developing 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 384 lb-ft (520 Nm) of torque. The model also has a limited-slip differential, beefier brakes, a revised steering system, and a retuned suspension – among other things.
On the topic of Nissan sports cars, GT-R sales plummeted 93.2% in the second quarter to a mere five units. They’re also off 75.5% for the year, but this is hardly surprising as North American production wrapped up last fall.
Sports cars aside, Nissan had a disappointing second quarter as sales were down 6.1% to 209,114 units. The Altima was off 16%, while the Sentra fell 36.7%. The Frontier also had a rough quarter as the mid-size truck was down 20.3%.
On the bright side, the Ariya and Murano were up 43.6% and 115.9%, respectively. The Pathfinder also continues to be a hot commodity as buyers snapped up 26,880 units for an increase of 30.8%. The redesigned Kicks is also a hit as sales soared 29.9% to 25,029 units.
