Nissan will unveil the sporty new X-Trail Nismo SUV in Japan on August 21.
Exterior upgrades include a bodykit, red accents, and unique Enkei wheels.
It gains revised suspension, steering, and AWD software for sharper handling.
Nissan’s Nismo performance arm has been busy expanding its reach into the SUV lineup. Fresh off unveiling its take on the Armada, the division is now turning its attention to the X-Trail, the overseas counterpart to North America’s Rogue.
This sportier variant is set to debut in Japan on August 21, bringing an aggressive bodykit and a more focused chassis setup, though major performance gains are not expected.
More Aggressive Looks
Our first look came through a dimly lit teaser on Nissan’s YouTube channel. The narrow DRLs and upper grille design point toward the long-rumored X-Trail Nismo. As with other Nismo-badged vehicles, the SUV will wear a prominent front splitter accented with signature red highlights.
Japanese outlet Creative Trend has outlined expected details of the new variant, including a full list of exterior equipment. Updates will reportedly cover a redesigned grille, extended bumpers, side skirts, and added cladding around the wheel arches, all marked with Nismo emblems. A fresh set of 20-inch Enkei alloy wheels, paired with Michelin performance tires, will round out the look.
According to the same source, the color palette will feature six options. The single-tone finishes will include Prism White, Diamond Black, and Dark Metal Gray, while the two-tone choices will pair Prism White, Cardinal Red, or Stealth Gray with a contrasting Super Black roof.
These styling upgrades will help the X-Trail Nismo distinguish itself from other variants that already feature sporty touches from the Autech and Nismo Parts catalog.

Sportier Cabin Touches
Inside, the cabin will likely feature black upholstery with red stitching and carbon-style accents, though the sporty treatment may be more restrained than what was seen in the larger Patrol/Armada Nismo unveiled earlier this year. Options are expected to include Recaro sport seats trimmed in leather and Alcantara, along with a nine-speaker Bose audio system.
Handling Over Power
While a Nismo variant of the X-Trail might usually be expected to deliver more power, reports suggest it will retain the standard e-Power system. This self-charging hybrid setup combines a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine that functions as a generator with dual electric motors, producing a total output of 211 hp (157 kW / 215 PS) and 525 Nm (387 lb-ft) of torque.
Even without added power, the sportier X-Trail will receive several key upgrades beneath the surface, aimed at sharpening handling and driver engagement. These will include Nismo-specific tuning for the electric power steering, suspension springs, and shock absorbers, along with revised software for the e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system.
What About America’s Rogue?
It is still unclear whether Nissan will keep the X-Trail Nismo exclusive to Japan or expand it to other markets.
In the United States, the next-generation Rogue is expected to arrive in mid-2026, and reports indicate it could include a Nismo trim. If that proves true, Nissan may be holding back the sporty treatment for the new model rather than adding it to the current Rogue lineup.
