The upcoming models will be based on the new STLA One platform and they’ll be joined by a Leapmotor-based crossover

• This includes a redesigned Astra and Corsa.
• Both will be based on the STLA One platform.

Opel took a back seat at the Stellantis Investor Day event, but the company confirmed plans for four new models including two based on the STLA One platform. The automaker is now elaborating and announcing plans to invest more than €1 ($1.15) billion into Germany through 2030.

Among the new models are the next-generation Astra and Corsa as well as the recently announced C-SUV, which will be built in partnership with Leapmotor.

The next-generation Astra will be based on the new STLA One platform and produced in Rüsselsheim. The Corsa will also ride on the new architecture and it will “take another step toward making electric mobility accessible and even more relevant.”

Both models will arrive before the end of the decade, but little is known about them at this point. However, Stellantis has previously said the STLA One platform will be launched in 2027 and be a modular architecture that supports multiple powertrains as well as vehicle sizes.

More importantly, the platform aims to cut costs by 20%, while also reducing complexity and speeding development. Scale and modularity are key to this, and the architecture will underpin vehicles in the B, C and D segments. It will eventually be used on more than 30 models globally.

STLA One vehicles will also support electric powertrains with affordable lithium iron phosphate batteries. The architecture is 800-volt capable and this means customers can expect fast recharging times and greater efficiency.

The C-SUV is scheduled to arrive in 2028 and it will be made in Zaragoza, Spain. The crossover will ride on a Leapmotor architecture and use their battery technology, but sport Opel chassis tuning and a unique design.

The model is expected to borrow heavily from the Leapmotor B10, which offers 56.2 and 67.1 kWh battery packs delivering up to 270 miles (434 km) of range. They power a 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS) electric motor.

The B10 can also be equipped with a range-extended powertrain that consists of a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, an 18.8 kWh battery, and the aforementioned motor. This gives the crossover an electric-only range of 53 miles (86 km) and an overall range of up to 559 miles (900 km) in the WLTP cycle.
