Japanese games will be in the spotlight on Wednesday, as PlayStation’s State of Play livestream showcases upcoming PS5 and PS4 games. Sony didn’t name any specific titles, but it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Final Fantasy 16

Wednesday’s stream will include first looks and updates, and last around 20 minutes. It won’t include updates on PlayStation VR2 hardware or games, the company noted.

Sony’s wildly popular PS5 gaming console has been going in and out of stock at retailers since its November 2020 launch.

When does PlayStation’s State of Play start?

It will be livestreamed on Wednesday, March 9, starting at 2 p.m. PT/5 p.m. ET, which converts to 10 p.m. BST and 9 a.m. Thursday AEST.

The event will be streaming from PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels. We’ll embed the YouTube link above, so you can watch right here.

What should we expect from PlayStation’s State of Play?

Final Fantasy XVI is a near-certainty, since publisher Square Enix acknowledged in December that the game had been delayed by COVID-19. At the time, producer Naoki Yoshida noted that his team planned to have a major showcase in spring 2022.

The RPG was revealed back in 2020, during the original PS5 showcase. It’s set in the world of Valisthea, and you play as the sword-wielding Clive Rosfield.

It’s possible we’ll see the downloadable content for Resident Evil Village as well. Developer Capcom announced it last summer.

The stream will also include “a few updates from other developers located around the world,” so it won’t only be Japanese games.
