Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 has a whole lot of punctuation, and got its first trailer on Monday. It hints at the usual mix of epic car chases, globetrotting and Tom Cruise leaping off tall things.
The seventh movie in the long-running spy franchise is scheduled to open in theaters on July 14, 2023, after being delayed by the pandemic. Dead Reckoning Part 2 is set for release June 28, 2024.
We get our first glimpses of new characters played by Hayley Atwell and Esai Morales, along with the classic teammates played by Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg. We also see Vanessa Kirby back as White Widow, the arms dealer introduced in 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
Henry Czerny returns as Eugene Kittridge — the spymaster last seen chasing down Cruise’s Ethan Hunt in the original 1996 Mission: Impossible. The trailer suggests he’ll play an antagonist role in Dead Reckoning, but that could be some classic Mission: Impossible misdirection.
The trailer comes ahead of another delayed Cruise blockbuster, Top Gun: Maverick, hitting theaters on Friday.
