Ahead of the Oscars, AMC Promises Movie Theater Popcorn at Home – CNET

You no longer need to visit the movie theater to buy movie theater popcorn, thanks to a new collaboration between AMC Theatres and Walmart. The movie theater company is launching a line called AMC Perfectly Popcorn, with options for both ready-to-eat and microwavable popcorn.

It’ll be available at Walmart stores on March 11, a day before the 2023 Oscars. Shoppers will be able to get that “movie theatre popcorn taste and aroma” without the trip to the movie theater, AMC said in a release on Tuesday.

The ready-to-eat popcorn will retail for $4 and the microwaveable variety for $5. The flavors include classic butter, extra butter and lightly salted. If you still miss the feeling of pumping extra butter into your jumbo bag of popcorn at the theaters, the microwavable Perfectly Popcorn extra butter comes with buttery topping packets.

AMC’s move to retail reflects the movie theater industry’s determination to staying relevant in an age dominated by streaming. Theater chains are also exploring options like more immersive experiences, giant displays and luxe auditoriums to win over customers.

The 95th Oscars will take place on March 12 at 5 p.m. PT/ 8 p.m. ET. The ceremony will be televised on ABC, and can also be streamed on services like YouTubeTV and Hulu Live TV. People can watch on the ABC app as well.
