Get An Up Close Look At The 2023 BMW M4 CSL Before Its Debut

BMW is just a couple of weeks away from revealing the long-awaited M4 CSL and not long after a pair of teaser images were shared online, our spy photographers have snapped a prototype up close, allowing us to see some of the key changes made to it.

Visible at the front of the M4 CSL will be a pronounced carbon-fiber splitter with aerodynamic flics on the leading edge, instantly making the CSL stand out from the regular model. Indeed, there are actually small ‘M4 CSL’ stickers on these carbon flics.

Elsewhere, we can see that BMW has equipped the M4 CSL with a unique set of black wheels which are wrapped in extraordinarily sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, the same set of rubber that was initially developed for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and GT2 RS and measuring 275/35ZR19 at the front and 285/30ZR20 at the rear.

A number of other exterior changes have been made to the car, including the fitment of a lip spoiler on the trunk lid and a tweaked rear diffuser complete with carbon fiber exhaust tips.

We were also able to snap a few photos of the prototype’s interior. Seats similar to those of the BMW M5 CS are visible and wrapped in a combination of black and red leather while made from lightweight carbon fiber. BMW has also removed the coupe’s rear seats and bathed the transmission tunnel in carbon fiber, deleting at the same time the center armrest. There is also a red-stitched CSL logo near the gear shifter, a red engine Start/Stop button, and an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with red contrast stitching.

Technical specifications about the M4 CSL remain under wraps but it will inevitably feature a tuned version of the M4 Competition’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder, likely producing around 540 hp. The M4 CSL will also weigh less than the standard model and also undergo a plethora of suspension and braking upgrades.

BMW will present the car at the Concours d’Eleganza Villa d’Este running from May 20 to May 22.
