Rolls-Royce Unveils New Aerodynamic Spirit Of Ecstasy For The Spectre

Rolls-Royce has unveiled a tweaked Spirit of Ecstasy figurine that will be used by the all-electric Spectre.

The British car manufacturer has remodeled the Spirit of Ecstasy exactly 111 years after the figurine was first registered as intellectual property of Rolls-Royce in 1911. The updated badge has been designed to be lower and more dynamic and better mimics the original drawings of the figurine made by Charles Skyes in the early 20th century.

Compared to the existing Spirit of Ecstasy which stands 100.01 mm tall, this new one is 82.73 mm tall and the wings have been reshaped to make them slightly more aerodynamic and realistic. She also adopts a slightly different pose and rather than standing with her feet together and tilting at the waist, she now has one leg forward and her body tucked lower.

“The Spirit of Ecstasy is the most famous and desirable automotive mascot in the world,” Rolls-Royce chief executive Torsten Müller-Ötvös said in a statement. “More than just a symbol, she is the embodiment of our brand, and a constant source of inspiration and pride for the marque and its clients. Like our brand, she has always moved with the times while staying true to her nature and character. In her new form she is more streamlined and graceful than ever before – the perfect emblem for the most aerodynamic Rolls-Royce ever created, and for gracing the prow of our bold electric future.”

Rolls-Royce says the updated Spirit of Ecstasy will be used on all future models but the current design will be retained for the existing Phantom, Ghost, Wraith, Dawn, and Cullinan.

The all-electric Rolls-Royce Spectre will launch in the fourth quarter of 2023. It will be underpinned by the same ‘Architecture of Luxury’ platform launched with the Phantom in 2017 and could use the same powertrain as the upcoming BMW i7. This may consist of a 120 kWh battery pack offering up to 435 miles (700 km) of range and potentially available with a tri-motor setup delivering upwards of 740 hp.
