Mazda published a teaser for the brand-new CX-60, a five-seater plug-in hybrid SUV for the European market that is set to debut on March 8. The new model will be the first Mazda with a PHEV powertrain and one of the four new SUVs from the automaker’s Large Product Group that will be introduced in 2022 and 2023.
The teaser is showing part of the CX-60’s face with aggressive headlights merging with the large grille and vertical bumper intakes similar to the smaller CX-50. The video also reveals a hint of the profile with the silhouette being typical of a Mazda SUV. Basically, the teaser confirms the leaked pictures from November 2021 that gave us a pretty good idea of the CX-60’s exterior design.

Mazda’s first PHEV will combine a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with a single electric motor, allowing a combined output of over 300 hp (221 kW / 304 PS). Mazda didn’t give more details about the specifications but the “greater confidence and driving enjoyment in the widest possible range of driving scenarios” hints at four-wheel-drive capability.
Besides the plug-in hybrid setup that will be available from the SUV’s debut, the CX-60 will also get the new straight-six Skyactiv-X (petrol) and Skyactive-D (diesel) engines with 48V mild-hybrid systems.
The CX-60 will have a five-seater cabin, with the larger CX-80 seven-seater joining in the future. Those two models were designed for the narrow roads of Europe and Japan, but the “Large Product Group” also includes the wider CX-70 and CX-90 destined for North America and other markets. All four models are set to debut in 2022 and 2023, expanding Mazda’s global SUV range.
