Ferrari 488 Pista Destroyed After Sliding Under Crash Barrier In Poland

A Ferrari 488 Pista has been wrecked after crashing on a motorway in Poland.

The incident happened near the town of Wyrzysk when the driver of the 488 Pista lost control while driving along the S10 expressway.

Auto Swiat reports that the mid-engined Italian supercar speared off the side of the road and slammed head-first into a crash barrier. While an ordinary vehicle would have been brought to quick stop by this barrier, the Ferrari was so low that it actually slid under the barrier, completely destroying its front end, the windshield, and the roof.

Local fire crews and police attended the scene and fortunately, the driver was not injured despite the severity of the crash.

Details about the moments leading up to the crash aren’t known but it is likely that the driver of the Ferrari was caught out by the slippery road surface and simply pressed the throttle a little too hard, spinning up the rear wheels and sending the supercar directly into the barrier.

The Ferrari obviously can’t be repaired as not only has the front been destroyed and the roof caved in but both sides have been trashed, as has the rear-end following the impact with the barrier. There’s a possibility that the engine and transmission are still intact and might be salvageable but apart from that, we suspect almost every part of the car will be scrapped.

As a reminder, the 488 Pista is the hardcore, track-focused variant of the 488 GTB and features a 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 muscling out 710 hp at 8,000 rpm and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque at 3,000 rpm. In addition to being more powerful than the GTB, the 488 Pista weighs 91 kg (200 lbs) less thanks to the use of carbon fiber on the hood, bumpers, and rear spoiler, alongside a number of other weight-saving measures.
