The Tesla Model S Plaid is the current king of the acceleration castle, at least among cars that aren’t the $3,000,000+ Rimac Nevera. But how much faster is it really than its two biggest electric rivals? Well, this video of it drag racing against the Lucid Air and the Porsche Taycan makes that incredibly clear.
Thanks to the folks at DragTimes we’re getting what seems to be the first set of races among all three electric super-sedans caught on video. To shoot this race, the team visited John Hennessey and ran the cars at his facility. Previously released videos showed the Lucid taking on the Tesla and then the Lucid paired up against the Porsche, but this race features all three head to head.
And just as in all past videos, the Model S Plaid runs away from both of its rivals without much fanfare. What’s interesting is just how much faster it is. It shouldn’t be wildly surprising that it’s faster than the Taycan simply because it boasts 1,020 hp (750 kw) while the Taycan has to make do with just 750 (551 kw).

But it’s also important to consider that the Porsche weighs almost 500 pounds (226 kg) more than the Tesla. So in terms of power to weight, the race goes exactly as it should. And that same principle applies to the Lucid which has the most horsepower, 1,111, but also weighs some 5,200 pounds (2,358 kg). That additional heft puts it totally out of the running for first place.
All three races go exactly the same way, with both American cars running away from the Porsche like it’s an underpowered film car in one of those poorly shot late-night street racing videos. Even when the cars line up and perform a roll race, there’s no dethroning the Tesla king.
This also highlight another interesting aspect of EV drag races. Since electric vehicles just require a driver that can hold the accelerator pedal down, they’re much easier to drive fast in a straight line than an equivalent internal combustion car that requires a much defter tone. Ultimately, none of these cars are actually slow, the Taycan just ends up being the least fast.
