Ever since Ferrari announced they would be making an SUV over three years ago, every mule and prototype we’ve seen of it so far has been exclusively under heavy camouflage. Now, out of nowhere, images of what appears to be a pre-production version of the Purosangue shot from the factory floor circulated on numerous social media pages today.
The three-quarter front photo reveals a split headlight design like the SF90, which is connected in the center with a body line. That brings us to the next part of the front end design, which is the grille. Interestingly, unlike their other front-engined models, Ferrari has chosen not to place the grille in line with the headlights. Instead, it resides down at the bottom of the bumper in a Porsche Panamera-like fashion, and it ends up looking more like a central intake than a grille.

There’s also black cladding around the wheel arches and on the lower bodywork, as it wouldn’t be an SUV in 2022 without it. That being said, given Ferrari’s incredibly large repertoire of customization services, we wouldn’t be surprised one bit if they offered plenty of body-colored options. Thankfully, the rear features a much more conventional design with 296 GTB-like quad taillights connected in the middle, quad tailpipes, and a large diffuser.
What do know about the powertrains?
And even if the looks of this SUV aren’t what most would expect from Ferrari, the performance should be. While nothing has been confirmed, sources have suggested that the Purosangue will offer a turbocharged engine paired to electric motors at launch with a range-topping, naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 rumored to follow.
The leading speculation is that the Purosangue will be powered by the V6 hybrid powertrain from the 296 GTB. Should that be the case, the SUV would make 819 hp (830 PS / 611 kW) and 546 lb-ft (740 Nm) of torque. Even if Ferrari decided to ditch the electric motor so as not to encroach on their mid-engined sports cars, the 2.9L twin-turbo V6 alone still makes a healthy 654 hp (663 PS / 488 kW).
Another possibility is that it could get the SF90 Stradale’s 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, though it would almost certainly be without the car’s 3 electric motors, as we don’t see Ferrari dethroning their flagship supercar by equipping their SUV with nearly 1,000 hp (1,014 PS / 746 kW). Nevertheless, that V8 is still plenty powerful on its own, making 769 hp (780 PS / 574 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. There’s also been rumors that the SUV could get the automaker’s naturally aspirated 6.5L V12 from the 812 Superfast, for a range-topping edition.
Overall, while we’ve certainly learned a lot about the Purosangue from just this leak alone, there’s still plenty more to find out. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too long, as a document from Ferrari revealed that the SUV will begin production this year with deliveries starting in 2023.
