MG Teases A New EV, Will Debut Late This Year

MG has teased a new electric vehicle, ahead of its debut later this year.

The company didn’t say much about the model, but confirmed it was designed with UK consumers in mind and will measure 169.3 inches (4,300 mm) long. This means the EV will be slightly larger than the Volkswagen ID.3, which measures 167.8 inches (4,261 mm) long.

While MG is staying tight-lipped, the teaser video shows a crossover or hatchback that features plastic body cladding as well as aerodynamically optimized 17-inch alloy wheels. The model also sports streamlined styling, a prominent shoulder line, and a stylish rear end that vaguely recalls the Kia EV6. We can also see a contrasting black or panoramic glass roof.

Autocar is reporting the model will be called the 4 and will be “broadly identical to the latest iteration of the 5 EV.” If that’s the case, the model may have a 61.1 kWh battery pack that powers an electric motor churning out 154 hp (115 kW / 156 PS) and 192 lb-ft (260 Nm) of torque. This setup enables the 5 EV to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 7.3 seconds and travel up to 250 miles (402 km) on a single charge under the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure.

Putting rumored specifications aside, MG seemed to suggest the electric vehicle will be affordable as they used the “MGElectricforAll” hashtag. Of course, we’ll find out more later this year.
